Week 1 of Insanity Max 30 Review

Insanity Max 30: What is this workout all about?
WHEW. Is all I can say.  This workout is crazy, awesome, challenging, fun, hard, motivating, and I can't imagine not getting crazy results.

This workout is designed for 5 days a week, 30 minutes. I know to some people they might say, well thats not very much. Trust me!  Its enough.  You are PUSHING yourself for 30 minutes straight.  Its hard but it goes pretty fast because the moves are constantly switching and working different muscle groups.

Every time you do a MAX:30 workout, you go as hard as you can for as long as you can. Then, when your lungs feel like sandpaper and your muscles are begging for mercy, that’s when you take a break, write down the time you MAXED OUT, and get right back in to finish your workout.

At first, you might only make it through 3 minutes (and believe me, even that will be an accomplishment). That means 3:00 is your MAX OUT time. Next time you do the workout, try to push that time just 30 seconds longer. If you can make 30 seconds of progress every day for 60 days, at the end of 60 days, you will make it all the way to MAX 30. And when that happens—trust me…you’re going to feel—and look—like a freakin’ fitness god.

10 WORKOUTS
Cardio Challenge. 30 minutes of the hardest cardio sequences you've ever tried. Welcome to INSANITY MAX:30.
Tabata Power. Your muscles will beg for mercy as your strength training starts with Tabata-style "20 seconds on, 10 seconds off" power moves.
Sweat Intervals. Get ready for 30 minutes of screaming, sweating, calorie-scorching madness.
Tabata Strength. Shaun T takes it up a notch in this NO REST, Tabata-style strength workout. You heard right . . . 30 minutes, no rest.
Friday Fight: Round 1. It's a battle between your body and your mind as you fight for time in this MAX OUT challenge. And this is just Round 1.
MAX OUT Cardio. This may be the craziest cardio workout you've ever tried. Just wait till you get to the first Power Move. What minute are you Maxing Out at now?

So I just finished week 1 and what do I think:
Honest thoughts. This workout it tough.  It truly is a mental and physical battle.  The positive things: its only 30 minutes, everyone can fit 30 minutes in.  Shawn T is encouraging.  Its funny because sometimes I think he is in the room with me. I was yelling at him seriously, out loud saying "You have something wrong with you" and he said "I know you think I'm crazy."  WHAT?!?!  Shawn how are you in my living room?  How did you hear me!

I really like that there is a modifier. There is a modifier track so you never lose sight of the modifier.  I modify some of the moves. It is still a great workout.  If you want to step out of your comfort zone and really get results then try this program.  The fitness is a huge component but do you know what matters more---> NUTRITION.

So how does the nutrition plan work?  You get to choose which plan you follow based on your weight.  Plan A or Plan B.  I am plan A because I am under 150 pounds.  So I have a certain number of fruits, veggies, proteins, carbs, healthy fats, seeds & dressings and oils and butters I can have each day. The nutrition guide gives you a list of foods in each category to choose from.


As I am creating my meal plan I tally the food groups so that I know if I have stayed within my daily recommended amount.  Since doing the 21 day fix and now Insanity Max 30 I can be really aware of my portion sizes.  The color portion containers make it SO easy. When I eat right, my workouts are easier, I have more energy and feel like I can DO IT! I can truly say that the nutrition portion of the workout plan is what makes you have increased performance, more energy to complete it and is the KEY if you want results.   You can't out work a bad diet.

So here goes Week 2:  My meal plan.  PLAN FOR SUCCESS!

Meatball and Spaghetti Squash

Meatball and Spaghetti Squash Spaghetti - 21 Day Fix and Insanity Max 30 Approved


Ingredients

Meatballs
  • 1 lb extra lean ground turkey
  • 2 tbsp chopped or minced garlic
  • 1 carrot, shredded
  • 2 tbsp  basil 
  • 1 whole egg
  • 3 tbsp ground flax seed
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch fine ground sea salt 
  • tomato sauce to top

Spaghetti

  • 1 large spaghetti squash
  • EVOO

How to make spaghetti:

Slice spaghetti squash in half length wise, scoop out seeds and strings

Drizzle with EVOO

Place on a foil lined baking sheet skin side down and bake for 45 minutes at 400 degrees

With a fork slice out the squash so it comes out with a string like consistency all the way down to the skin.

Put in bowls as the "spaghetti"

 How to make meatballs:
  1. In a large bowl mix: lean ground turkey, garlic, salt, egg, carrot, flax seed, basil, pepper
  2. Form into small balls, I made about 12
  3. Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes

2 Meatballs equals 1 red and fill one container of squash for yellow

Meatloaf Muffins with Sweet Potato Frosting

Meatloaf Muffins - 21 Day fix and Insanity Max Approved


Ingredients for Muffins
1 pound lean ground turkey
1 egg

1/2 cup of tomato and onions
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 cup and 2 tbsp ketchup (separated)
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce


Sweet Potato Frosting
1 large sweet potato
Almond milk
 
Directions
(Preheat over to 350) 
1. Combine turkey, egg, bread crumbs, 1/2 cup ketchup in a large bowl and mix well.
2. Divide meat mixture into 6 large balls and put in regular sized cupcake tin.
3. Mix 2 tbsp ketchup and 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce and top muffins equally
4. Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees
5. While muffins are baking wash large sweet potato and poke several times with a fork. Microwave for 5 minutes, flip and microwave another 3-5 minutes until totally soft.  Peel potato and add some almond milk....I just eye balled it but put in about 2 tbsp at a time until soft. Blend with electric mixer.
6. When muffins are done, plate them and top with 1/6 of the potato and ENJOY!!!

Serving info:
1 serving is 1.5 muffins topped with sweet potato

Healthy "Tastes Like Original" Pancakes

These are one of my favorite pancake recipes.  Especially when I made them for my husband and he said "oh good you made real pancakes."  These are easy and you make them in your blender so its easy clean up and I love that!  I hope you enjoy!

Make in a Blender Pancakes 
6 egg whites
2 tsps sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
1 scoop of vanilla shakeology (or any protein powder)
1 cup oatmeal
2-3 tbs of vanilla almond milk (depends on thickness of batter)

Blend in blender and cook on griddle

2014 Reflection

I have so many mixed emotions about this year. It has definitely been one of the hardest and one of the best too!  The reason its been the hardest because my husband was training for a new job out of town for half of it.  I had to do everything on my own the cooking, cleaning, shopping, packing up everyday for my son to go to the babysitters, and basically everything else too!  It was very trying and hard and exhausting.  It would have been the perfect time to waive my white flag and lay down but for some reason I used it to motivate me.  It was the best too because I am so proud of him for accomplishing a life long dream. I was able to really bond even more with our son.  I found my niche in life and found a second job I really love and was able to pay it forward to help so many people! 

 What are my secrets? 

How did I thrive this year instead of curling up in a ball?

Some things I did to get through this year:

1. I pushed play -  I didn't let my fitness slack. I got up early at 5am 3-4 days a week and worked out. I finished 3 different at home programs. The 21 Day Fix, PiYo, and Chalene Extreme. I love them all for different reasons but I truly believe its what got my body back after baby. I don't have time to go to the gym all the time and these are all workouts that I can do at home.  Having ME time everyday gave me energy and confidence to get through everything else.  

2.  Got enough sleep -  I am not someone who can function on 4-5 hours. I need a solid 7-8 so no matter what was going on, every night I got in bed by 10 tried to be asleep by 10:30.  I truly can't function on less. When I had less, I ate like crap, was miserable, and couldn't  possibly get through everything the next day when I am dragging.  

3. I ate right -  I am by no means perfect. I love a fried chicken wing and buffalo chicken dip as much as the next girl. I enjoyed and had a taste or 2 when I wanted it.  However, 80% of the time I was on track.  I had my Shakeology for breakfast each day. I pack my lunch for work and plan out my meals each week.  I try to eat clean most of the time, less processed, more real food. 





4.  Work from a To Do List -  I've tried a few different ones this year. I bought apps, I have a planner, I use my notes in my phone, I write it on scraps of paper.  I truly can't say I have figured out the very best way YET but I do know that writing it down helps me to stay on track. I am forgetful and this always helps me.  





5. Explore what makes you passionate -  I started a new job. I became a Beachbody Coach.  While this was probably the worst time to start a new job, I found that it really motivated me to want to do better. I have my masters degree in counseling psychology and have been a group exercise instructor for a few years now so I have been able to combine the two into a virtual health and fitness coach.  Ive been able to pay off credit cards, go on vacation, and start to have some financial freedom! If you want more out of life and love health and fitness and want to pay it forward - join my team!  



6.  Keep positive people in your life -  Do your part to maintain stable, positive relationships, instead of sweating the small stuff and creating drama. Who wants to waste a day being irritated with something or someone? When you cast negativity onto the world, you will always feel bad inside.
If you aim to maintain balance around you, it will help you maintain balance within.  I have a solid group of friends, an amazing sister, and a great supportive family.


7.  Pay it forward -  I have finally found a happy balance in my life. I have workouts that I love, simple nutrition, and am able to help others. Giving is much better than receiving. 




8.  Be happy with what you have - I still struggle with this.  I want that outfit, the new furniture, decorations, dvds, computer etc. I am working, trying and striving to be happy with what I have and see the positive.  And when my hubby was away it sure made me appreciate all he does while he is here. Be thankful for what others do for you as well!!   Living with a grateful heart is much better than always chasing something else.  

I truly hope that 2015 is your best year yet!  I hope that my tips will help you to lead a balanced and fulfilling life!
